Students are being advised to have confidence in their work and ability.

A record 135,000 students are due to sit the State exams today. Both Junior and Leaving Certs will sit English papers from 9.30 this morning. It's the first time this year's sixth years are facing a formal State exam, as their Junior Cert was cancelled during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Minister Norma Foley, says getting this far is a huge achievement. "I want to acknowledge the support that comes from families. It's a great achievement for students who have gotten to this point in their education. Students should do the best that they can; all will be well and everything works out in the end," she added.

Meanwhile, students are being advised to have confidence in their work and ability as they prepare to sit the exams. Director of Communications with Jigsaw, the National Centre for Youth Mental Health, Mike Mansfield says students should try to stick with their routines, and take regular breaks.

"Trust that what you have done is enough and ensure that you try as best you can to maintain some element of routine. Continue to get out there and get some exercise," he concluded.
