137 people from Cavan and Monaghan have become Irish citizens this week.
A special ceremony was held in County Kerry this week. 7,500 people from 143 countries were conferred with Irish citizenship at the INEC Killarney.
95 people in Cavan received citizenship whilst 42 in Monaghan were also conferred at the ceremony. The highest number of successful applicants came from India, where nearly 2,000 received Irish citizenship. To date, including minors, approximately 206,400 people have received Irish citizenship since 2011.
Speaking ahead of that event, Minister O'Callaghan said: "This ceremony marks an important milestone in the lives of those receiving Irish citizenship.
"For each new citizen it signifies a deep connection to Ireland, its values, and its people. Ireland welcomes our new citizens as full members of society, and their contributions will undoubtedly strengthen the fabric of our nation. "I encourage all new citizens to continue to actively engage in their communities so that, together, we can build a thriving society."
