14% increase locally in fines issued for parking or stopping in a disabled bay

There's been a 34% increase in the number of fines issued nationwide.

There's been a 14% increase across Cavan/Monaghan in the number of fines issued for parking or stopping in a disabled bay.

80 fines were administered by gardaí last year, a 14% increase on the 70 fines that were issued in 2020.

Nationwide, there's been a 34% increase, with gardai issuing over 4,100 fines in 2021 - compared to less than 3,100 the previous year.

Nearly 1,400 were issued in Dublin last year, and there were 434 in Limerick.

John Dolan, the chief executive of the Disability Federation of Ireland, is criticising those who break the law:
