The news was welcomed today by Deputy Brendan Smith.

Minister Darragh O'Brien has issued initial approval to Cavan County Council for the proposed development of 64 new homes at Swellan Lower in Cavan Town on extensive Council own lands. Included in this Scheme is a Community/Group Home which offers 4 units of accommodation to enable persons with a disability to live independently. According to Cavan-Monaghan Fianna Fail TD, Brendan Smith, this news is "very welcome" for all adults with a disability and their families who need appropriate housing accommodation.

The overall development will cater for social housing applicants for families and individuals, young and old, and also with age friendly housing. The inclusion of 4 units for those with disabilities will cater for our citizens who wish to live independently and these community homes will also provide for staff quarters. Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Smith welcomed the news, adding that it will be of huge benefit to many people across the local area.
