There was €847,000 allocated to local authorities in the Northern Sound region in 2024 under the 2024 Planned Maintenance / Voids programme.
The figures were released by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne, following a parliamentary question from Galway West TD, John Connolly.
The 2024 programme provided funding of €31 million to local authorities to support the refurbishment and re-letting of a minimum of 2,300 homes.
In Monaghan, 35 units were allocated funding in 2024, with €385,000 awarded to the local authority.
Meanwhile, in Cavan, 42 units were allocated funding, with €462,000 awarded.
According to the Minister Browne, the management and maintenance of local authority housing stock, including pre-letting repairs to vacant properties, the implementation of a planned maintenance programme and carrying out of responsive repairs, are matters for each individual local authority.
He explained that local authorities also have a legal obligation to ensure that all of their tenanted properties are compliant with the provisions of the Housing Regulations 2019.
