Local GP calls for patients to 'remain positive' in relation to Covid figures

Dr Illona Duffy has dismissed concerns of a 'hybrid' type flu due to the combination of Covid this winter.

A Monaghan GP says it's important to be positive in relation to the drop in Covid-19 figures across the region.

Despite concerns moving into the winter, Dr Illona Duffy believes it's important to for the public to focus on the drop in both Covid presentations and positive figures, instead of feeling anxious about the winter months ahead and further flu approaching.

While those who are immunocompromised, and who are on medications may be more prone to serious illness as a result of contracting the virus, Dr Duffy says the "majority" of people are not needing hospitalisation.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show earlier today, Dr Duffy added that current Covid figures are "nothing" like they once were, and that medical professionals are "hopeful" that the virus will continue to burn itself out:
