A local GP says the record figures could be a result of a lack of care during the pandemic.

A large proportion of those attending emergency departments last week were over the age of 75, according to the HSE.

This comes as an all time high of emergency department attendances was reported - just short of 28,000.

Those over the age of 75 who attend are often in poor health and more likely to be admitted, resulting in longer stays and a need for community supports when discharged.
