The MD has decided on a "Natural Play" area.

The Ballybay-Clones MD has given approval for €20,000 of its resources to go towards the upgrade of O'Neill Park Playground in Clones.

Recent inspections have indicated that the park requires "rejuvenation".

Estimated costs for the project were in the region of €79,000, and it was decided that this investment would offer "limited play value".

Alternative arrangements were then sought and the MD will now move forward with a "Natural Play" area adjacent to the existing play area.

A natural playground is a play area that uses natural materials such as tree logs, tree stumps, and plants, instead of a traditional steel playground structure.

€15,000 in funding has already been acquired for the works via the Department of Children and Youth Affairs, and councillors were informed that the facility can be added to "as and when further funding is available".
