This year marks the 25th anniversary of the twinning agreement between the town of Ballybay and Gergweis, Osterhofen, in Germany.
This is a partnership built on friendship and cultural exchange.
To celebrate this special milestone, Cathaoirleach Sinéad Flynn, along with Municipal District Co-Ordinator Matthew Lambe and a delegation of staff from the Ballybay-Clones MD, will travel to Bavaria from the 26th to the 29th of June.
A return visit by representatives from Gergweis to Ireland is planned for September.
Cllr Flynn believes this return visit will further strengthen the long-standing ties between the two communities.
Osterhofen is located in South Germany and has a population of around 12,000 people, with the village of Gergweis having a population of around 600. Ballybay and Gergweis officially signed a twinning agreement in 2000, after an Osterhofen council member was introduced to Ballybay after the 1997 All-Ireland Hurling Final.
