A Co Monaghan councillor says Government must do more to ensure that the Irish language is used and maintained.
During a recent public accounts committee, Cavan-Monaghan TD Cathy Bennett brought up the issue of more funding needed for the Irish language.
The Sinn Fein representative said she was "shocked" after a presentation by Conradh na Gaeilge in relation to the Irish language and how not enough is being spent.
Deputy Bennett said there's hardly been any funding allocated in the last ten years and more needs to be done to make sure that our Irish language is used and maintained.
Despite her concerns, Deputy Bennett praised efforts in Co Monaghan by Muineachán le Gaeilge and the Irish speaking cafe An Nead.
The local TD believes more must be done to ensure that there is more Irish language schools and classes being taught to everyone.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Bennett warned that if we want Gaeilge to thrive, we need to see greater investment.
