New legislation being put forward by Fine Gael would make 'drink spiking' a stand alone offence. Dublin Rape Crisis Centre is welcoming the proposal and says it will remind people spiking someone's drink is poisoning them.
The bill being brought to the Seanad by the Justice Minister next week, would see perpetrators facing a 10-year jail term. The Centre's Chief Executive, Noeline Blackwell says the longer sentence is needed "to reflect the harm caused".
