Bishop of Kilmore pays tribute to Fr Anthony Fagan

Bishop Martin Hayes told Northern Sound that Fr Anthony "generated a great legacy for himself."

The Bishop of Kilmore has paid tribute to the late Fr Anthony Fagan.

Fr Anthony who was born in Bailieboro passed away on Tuesday.

Bishop Martin Hayes told Northern Sound that Fr Anthony "generated a great legacy for himself" and described him as a "much-loved priest of the diocese whose gentle manner, kindness, and faithful pastoral service touched countless lives."

Bishop Hayes said Fr Anthony gave himself completely and was a leader in scouting in Cootehill and was very involved with St Vincent De Paul in Cavan, amongst many other things.

Fr Anthony received his early education in Bailieboro Boys’ National School and Ballinamoney National School before attending St Patrick’s College, Cavan, and later St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, where he studied for the priesthood.

The Bishop of Kilmore also paid tribute to Fr Anthony's influence on young people, adding that Fr Anthony himself was inspired by his own uncle growing up, Monsignor Edward Lynch.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Bishop Hayes said Fr Anthony made a "mighty contribution" to the Kilmore Diocese.

He added that Fr Anthony will be remembered as someone who was able to communicate God's love in a very gentle way and in a way that people really respond to:

Fr Anthony's Funeral Mass will take place at 12 noon tomorrow with burial afterwards in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
