A number of families went to to the swimming pool to celebrate Confirmation.

A 7-year-old boy who died after getting into difficulty at a hotel swimming pool in Co Clare has been named as Shay Lynch from Clonlara.

He died after being brought to University Hospital Limerick following the incident at the Lakeside Hotel in KilLaloe.  Scoil Seanain Naofa in Clonlara, where Shay was a 1st class pupil, described him as 'kind-hearted' with a 'bright smile'.

Local councillor Michael Begley says it's a 'devastating' and 'shocking' incident which happened while a friend's Confirmation was being celebrated: "Probably in the region of 40 families were involved in the confirmation ceremony ion Clonlara on Saturday," Cllr Begley said, "A number of families went to Killaloe to celebrate in the play area there and swimming pool and so forth. It's just shocking that something like this could happen."
