Building cross-border relations a 'key priority' in Ballyconnell

The aim of the project is to re-establish the community centre, build community spirit and bring communities together regardless of age, faith or ethnicity.

Ballyconnell Community Centre has launched a new 'Grassroots Ballyconnell' programme which will benefit people from both sides of the border. Funded by the International Fund for Ireland, the aim of the project is to re-establish the community centre, build community spirit and bring communities together regardless of age, faith or ethnicity. Four key areas were identified in the Ballyconnell area for needing more support therefore programmes have been developed to cater to this such as capacity building, a young person development programme, older person programme and building a new community.

Laura Brady who is originally from Ballinagh in Co Cavan is Coordinator of the Ballyconnell Community Centre. Speaking to Northern Sound, Laura also expressed her "delight" over the new community hall which was opened to the public in Ballyconnell. After the previous hall was closed for six years in the area, Laura said it's fantastic to now have the opportunity to look to the future and build new relations in a community centre that was so needed:
