David Cassidy's brother has hailed his "resilience and strength" following the accident in which David lost both his lower legs.

A fundraising campaign has been launched to help a Clones native who lost both his lower legs in a serious accident on the New York subway.

David Cassidy was involved in the accident on the fifth of December last, and is currently undergoing a series of surgeries in a Manhattan hospital.

It's been warned that Mr Cassidy, who moved to New York in 2013, faces a long period of rehabilitation and his family say it's difficult to predict how much his future medical expenses will cost.

A GoFundMe page, titled "Help fund David's recovery", has raised close to 140-thousand dollars.

In a post on the GoFundMe page, Niall Cassidy praised the "resilience, positivity, and strength" of his brother, adding that David is "well known for going above and beyond for everyone in life".
