Rachel believes it's "vitally important" to raise as much money as possible for her chosen charity, Motor Neurone Disease, which will help develop research and give back to the families who are impacted by the disease.

26-year-old Rachel Martin will represent County Monaghan in the Miss Ireland 2022 contest later this summer.

Established in 1947, Miss Ireland has been the launch pad for many successful and inspiring women in Ireland.

The Castleblayney native will be put through her paces in a challenging competitive process testing her skills in debating, public speaking, talent, and modelling, and will also be tasked with raising much-needed awareness and funds for Motor Neurone Disease, her chosen charity.

Speaking to Northern Sound, Rachel says the competition is a great platform for her to encourage and inspire other women of all shapes and sizes.

She also wants to use her platform to promote "mindfulness" amongst the younger generation, which she believes is an essential tool to reduce stress and promote positive mental health.

The final of the Miss Ireland competition 2022 will take place on August 20th at the Royal Theatre in Castlebar, Co Mayo:
