Elected members at a recent County Council meeting voted to re-zone lands from "Proposed Residential" to "Amenity and Open Space".

A Cavan auctioneer has criticised the County Council for lacking a "vision for the future" regarding its County Development Plan.

At a recent County Council meeting, elected members voted to re-zone lands from "Proposed Residential" to "Amenity and Open Space".

The executive was against the motions, saying that these lands are "precisely where we need a residential development to be happening".

Don Crotty, from Crotty Auctioneers in Cavan, warned there is a "housing crisis" in the region and that the local housing market is still "suffering a hangover from the financial crisis".

Land close to Cavan General Hospital on the Farnham road was among the lands rezoned as "Amenity and Open Space".
