'It's the time of year when people dust off the bag of flour that might have been sitting in the press for a couple of months and try something out'

Well-known Cavan chef Shane Smith has set up an online cookery school in recent months. The classes that Shane offers can be viewed live or watched at any time that suits those who love preparing food.

He will be sharing recipes that he has worked on over the years and will simplify them to suit everyone - even a beginner in the kitchen. The Cavan chef has over 23 years experience behind him and says Halloween and Christmas remain the most popular times of the year for baking.

He added that food is about the experience of sharing with people and those we love. "Halloween baking is huge but Christmas baking is still number one.

"That is the time when people love to dust off the bag of flour that might have been sitting in the press for a couple of months and try something out. Especially if there are younger bakers at home.

"Food is an experience that you share with other people; around this time of year family come home and people are off, so they take to the kitchen a little bit more," said Mr Smith.
