John Paul Feeley says it is "disappointing" there is "no memorandum of understanding".

A Cavan councillor has called for greater co-operation between fire services on both sides of the border.

John Paul Feeley says there is "no memorandum of understanding" regarding fires along the border and that incidents are "taken on a case-by-case basis".

He referenced an incident last month in Belcoo, Co Fermanagh, in which 16,000 chickens were killed in a farm fire.

Firefighters from Belleek, Enniskillen, and Irvinestown attended the scene for over eight hours to bring it under control.

Councillor Feeley told a recent County Council meeting that it is "disappointing" there is "no memorandum of understanding regarding "very significant" incidents like this.

He called for the Council to raise the issue at a national level.
