A Cavan councillor has warned that HGV driver shortages could cause customer supply issues over Christmas.

Councillor Shane P O'Reilly says we are at a "crisis point" and it is not going to get any better without intervention.

He echoed a call from John Paul Feeley for an amnesty on the theory test to clear the backlog of drivers waiting to sit their practical driving test.

Speaking at a recent Cavan County Council meeting, Shane P O'Reilly warned that while the "goose is getting fat, there will be no one to deliver it to the butcher":
