Cavan County Councillors have come to the decision to take a step back from X.
This is due to due to child protection, data protection, and ethical concerns in light of the production of offensive 'deepfake' imagery on the network.
The Council says it maintains an active social media presence on Facebook, Bluesky, Instagram, and LinkedIn, in addition to a dedicated WhatsApp channel, all of which enable members of the public to stay informed with regard to news and updates from the council.
People who do not wish to join another social media network can access the council's social media feed without logging in at www.cavancoco.ie/socialmedia.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cavan County Councillor Stiofan Conaty described the platform, previously known as Twitter, as as "a cesspit".
