A Co. Cavan based woman is cycling from Malin Head to Mizen Head 'backwords', in order to break the cycle of domestic violence.
Sheila O'Brien believes there is still a stigma with domestic violence.
She said that people are don't want to talk about it, and are hiding from it.
The Boston born woman has been living in Cavan since 2003.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, Sheila explained how she was in an abusive relationship.
She spoke about telling her friends about what was happening in her life.
Sheila said: "Originally I didn't tell anyone what was going on, because of the stigma, did I screw up? A few people might have said, 'don't go down that avenue,' and I did anyway - because I thought I new best.
"Life changed quickly. There was just a couple of local friends who happened to see me in the village in Mountnugent and said, 'you don't look right. You're not right, where have you been?'"
Sheila also spoke about the support she received as she tried to get out of her situation.
She received support from Teramann, which is now joined SAFE Ireland.
The Co. Cavan woman explained how important that support was.
"The big thing was, they came to court with me. They sat with myself and a few other women.
"That was the first time I saw myself, I don't want to use the word victim, but I was living my whole life getting through every day.
"Then you see other women around you telling their stories, the same stuff was happening to them. I had never met anybody before that was going through this.
"It was little things like getting you a coffee, but these women sat with you for eight or nine hours a day. They were always there.
"The two women who helped me, only for them, they kept me grounded and really helped me mentally," Sheila added.
Thankfully, Sheila is now in a better space.
She wants to fundraise in order to give something back.
"I'm not taking the scenic route, because I've had a scenic life.
"I'll be cycling into the wind. That represents me pushing through what I've been through. I'm coming from Malin straight all the way down to Mizen.
"I'm doing this, probably just over a week, on a heavier bike. It is therapy, but it's an awareness.
"Raising the money is excellent, but it's about
