Cavan General Hospital has scooped up an award for its commitment to creating healthy meals for its staff and visitors.
The Cavan hospital picked up a silver award at the Happy Heart Healthy Eating Awards, for their meal choices on offer.
In total, 21 healthcare facilities across Ireland, providing healthier meals for almost 18,000 health service employees, were honoured this year's awards. The Happy Heart Healthy Eating Awards have been running for over 25 years, and are a joint initiative of the Irish Heart Foundation and the HSE.
Studies show that a healthy and balanced diet and an active lifestyle help reduce the risk of chronic conditions such as heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and some cancers. Congratulating the winners, Irish Heart Foundation CEO, Emma Balmaine, said: "Healthcare workplaces are ideal settings to promote healthy eating because many people eat one if not two meals per day at work."
