Cavan man appointed aide to Grand Marshal for New York parade

The Cavan native says it's a great honour and is looking forward to the parade that is attended by over 1 million people.

Michael O'Reilly who was born in Kilcogy in Co Cavan has been announced as the United Irish Counties Aide to The Grand Marshal for the New York parade.

Michael was raised in Co. Cavan and attended Mullahoran National School, then Cnoc Mhuire Secondary School Granard.

He followed that with a plumbing apprenticeship with Cavan County Council, graduating in August 1983. In October of 1983 he immigrated to the United States

In 1987 Michael met his wife Rosie O'Reilly from Co Monaghan in New Jersey. Michael has devoted much of his time over the 41 years in New York to all things in the Irish Community Stateside.

The Cavan native says it's a great honour and is looking forward to the parade that is attended by over 1 million people. Micheal recalls what it was like over 40 years ago when he arrived in New York.
