According to Francis, his son Jamie has been left in limbo and the situation is having a negative impact on the family as a whole.

'When it comes to kids with special needs, it's a fight for everything'

That's according to one Cavan father whose autistic son has been left without school transport for almost three months and therefore unable to attend school.

Despite raising concerns at the start of the school year, Francis Kilbride from Bawnboy was only informed recently that school transport had been arranged for his son Jamie.

However, Jamie is still unable to attend school due to difficulties in sourcing a SNA to travel with him.

As a result, Francis is concerned that the transport service who agreed to take Jamie would terminate the contract due to the length of time it is taking for the school to recruit someone for this position.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Francis described the situation as "unfair" and has called on the school and the department to work together to put a temporary SNA in place until a full-time SNA is appointed:
