Cavan SPCA is urging people to remember they are taking on an animal for life not just for Christmas when gifting a pet this year.

Tina O'Brien the chairperson and welfare officer of the CSPC says that while rescues do tend to close their homing or adoption services in the run up to
Christmas there are breeders across the country that mean it's still possible to give an animal as a present.

She says that every year there are animals abandoned or passed on to new homes when those who receive them cannot give them the time required, or financially cannot cover vets bills.
