Breast Cancer Awareness month encouraged Rachael-Ann to visit her GP to get checked.

Cancer doesn't discriminate on age.

That's the message from Rachael-Ann Mc Carney, a school teacher from Co Cavan who was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer last year, aged 27.

She says she is very fit and active and initially dismissed the lump on her breast as a weight lifting injury.

However, she noticed it was growing and says October's Breast Cancer Awareness month encouraged her to visit her GP to get checked.

The Irish Cancer Society is launching its "Care for your Pair" campaign this October to ensure breast cancer patients and their families have the support and care they need.

Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, Rachel-Ann says she feels it is now her "mission" to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer:
