A Cavan Tidy Towns project has been selected as part of the Adopt a Monument Scheme 2025.
The Annagelliffe Graveyard and Church project hopes to preserve, protect and promote the site, while respecting the history and biodiversity of the area.
The Cavan site is one of eight areas included in the national scheme this year, some other projects in Ireland include a sweat house, a ring fort and a tower house.
The scheme will include access to expert advice and guidance to ensure that the area is dealt with in the best way possible.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Cavan Tidy Towns Secretary, Paul Lynch talked about the intentions for the graveyard.
"We're going to put together a really good, long-term maintenance plan and a long-term biodiversity plan for the graveyard. Not only is it a historical graveyard, it's home to a fantastic aspect of biodiversity. There's just so much nature in that graveyard. As a committee, we have to balance the biodiversity and the historical aspect. But everyone's enjoying the project. It's really fun. Cavan Tidy Towns are really enjoying it. Local residents are enjoying it, and indeed, some of the families of people who are buried there have joined our team."
