Cavan Town water restrictions comes into effect at 8pm

Supply is returning to Uisce Éireann customers in Cavan Town who were impacted by supply outages last night as a result of a major leak on a main at the town’s Billis Reservoir.
The leak caused treated water to drop to critically low levels at the reservoir on Wednesday evening and caused some customers in the town to experience reduced pressure and supply disruptions.

Uisce Éireann crews successfully isolated the leak and completed their repairs this morning. Reservoir levels are now recharging, and normal supply will gradually return to impacted customers over the course of the afternoon.

Nighttime restrictions to maintain a daytime supply continue to be essential for Cavan Town and will come into effect tonight (Thursday) from 8pm rather than the usual 11pm, in order to allow the reservoir more time to replenish.

Uisce Éireann tankered water to the town’s reservoirs to help maintain supply during this outage and also ensured a full continuous supply to Cavan General Hospital.
Uisce Éireann’s Peter Gallagher thanked impacted customers for their patience while repairs were ongoing and renewed an appeal to conserve water.
“We understand the frustration that can be brought about by unplanned water outages, particularly in warm weather, and we wish to thank impacted customers for their understanding,” said Peter.

“Our crews were able to locate and repair the leak, and supply should now be returning to impacted homes and businesses in the town.”

Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to restore to all customers affected by an unplanned outage. However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.

“Demand remains at a very high level, which is placing severe strain on our supplies of treated water,” continued Peter. “The ongoing nighttime restrictions are necessary to secure daytime supply. We are encouraging customers in Cavan Town to limit their water usage to essential purposes where possible.”
