Cathy is the first in the Saolta Hospital Group to be announced as a RANP.

A Cavan woman has made history in the Heart Failure Service of a Donegal Hospital.

Cathy Farrell set up the service at Letterkenny University Hospital in 2006, and was recently announced as the unit's Registered Advanced Nurse Practitioner.

RANPs are the highest level of clinical experts in the nursing profession, and she is the first to be appointed to the position in the Saolta Hospital Group.

Speaking about her position, Farrell said her years of experience in heart failure nursing, gave her extensive experience and knowledge to get where she is today.
