Change at the top of ‘Disappeared’ investigations team

Former lead, Jon Hill indicated to the Commission towards the end of last year that he intended to stand down in the spring of 2025.

The Independent Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains (ICLVR) has announced the appointment of a new lead investigator. Former garda officer Eamonn Henry will take over the role from Jon Hill.

Mr Henry served with An Garda Síochána for over 30 years, 11 of which was as a Detective Inspector with the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The remains of four victims remain outstanding, while 13 have been located since the establishment of the commission in 1999. In Co Monaghan a search was conducted in Bragan Bog for one of The Disappeared Columba McVeigh, while another search was also recently conducted at a graveyard in Annyalla for one of The Disappeared, Joe Lynskey.

Despite these searches, the bodies of both men were not located. In a statement following his recent appointment, Mr Henry appealed to anyone who has any information concerning the location of the remains of Joe Lynskey, Columba McVeigh, Robert Nairac and Seamus Maguire to come forward to the Commission who will treat all information received in the strictest confidence.
