Children who died in Co Westmeath car fire remembered at vigil

'Inquiries into the incident are ongoing'

Gardai believe a car fire in Co Westmeath that killed two children was started deliberately.

Two-year-old Michael and five-year-old Thelma lost their lives, while their mother, Lynn Egar, was seriously injured.

The two children were remembered at a vigil last night.

Meanwhile, the incident happened in Multyfarnham on Friday afternoon.

An infant boy was removed by ambulance to Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar, where he was pronounced dead.

The remains of the girl were also discovered at the scene.

The woman remains in hospital with serious injuries that she sustained in the blaze.

Enquiries are ongoing into the incident.
