Fine Gael Councillor Carmel Brady has become the next Cathaoirleach of Cavan County Council.
While, Fianna Fail’s Cllr Niall Smith has been elected as Leas Cathaoirleach for Cavan County Council.
Cllr Brady has been elected three times to the Bailieboro Cootehill Municipal District.
The proven vote getter also sought a seat in the 2024 General Election and also sought a seat in the Seanad.
The Bunnoe native has held the position of Leas Cathaoirleach for Cavan County Council in 2017-2018. Carmel is originally from a farming family in Bunroe and now lives in Tullyvin.
She is married to Seamus and has two children.
Carmel works as a legal secretary and having worked in Cootehill for over thirty years, is well aware of the difficulties facing the people of the town and the surrounding area in difficult economic times.
She has always been an active member of the community, holding positions on various committees in the local area including her local GAA club Kill Shamrocks, the Community Centre in Tullyvin village and in the renovation of the local church.
She says she is delighted to be chosen for the role, adding that it was a huge honour for her and her family.
