Local volunteers have received high praise following today's IBAL results.
The latest litter survey by business group Irish Business Against Litter (IBAL) shows both Monaghan and Cavan towns are inside the top ten in the ranking of 40 cities and towns.
Monaghan has moved up to 2nd position, while Cavan, previously 19th, is up to 8th.
Following today's IBAL results, Emer Brennan of Monaghan Tidy Towns says staying in the top five is a "top priority" for the group.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Emer paid tribute to the hard work and dedication shown by local volunteers and council staff.
She said the group will continue to work hard and strive to remain in the top five, adding that the group's focus is now on the Tidy Towns judging which is imminent.
Emer told Northern Sound: "Our aim was to stay in the top five and we've certainly achieved that. I want to acknowledge all the volunteers and council staff.
The main people to also thank is those who don't litter in the first place and make life easier for those trying to keep the town in as good of condition as possible."
