A Co Monaghan man has outlined the importance of healthy competition amongst young people when it comes to sport.
Johnny McManus coaches youth teams in Clones and is an administrator within the Cavan Monaghan Soccer League.
The local man was responding to a letter sent to the Joe Finnegan Show from an anonymous parent highlighting her concerns about underage players not being played at a young age.
The mother outlined her concerns that her child is being excluded when it comes to the little playing time she gets on a U-16 girls GAA team.
Responding to this letter, Mr McManus said unfortunately this is a conversation that happens in households across the country in relation to all different sports.
He said while it's not nice to think that any young person is feeling bad about being on teams, it unfortunately comes with the territory and ability has to be a factor somewhere along the lines.
Mr McManus said the best thing for any parent who shares similar concerns is to sit down with committee members.
Speaking on today's Joe Finnegan Show, Johnny said unfortunately parents aren't going to the actual people who will have the answers in place and that's how unnecessary arguments break out.
In his opinion, children love competition and that's what keeps sport going:
