A Co Cavan mother says progress has been made when it comes to breastfeeding in public however there's still a "long way to go." Lorna Fitzpatrick Gaule works as a volunteer at the Virginia Breastfeeding peer support group. When it comes to breaking down barriers and making breastfeeding public more sociably acceptable, Lorna says it's important for mothers to "be the change" they want to see.
In terms of making it more sociably acceptable, Lorna believes there's plenty that we can do. Lorna highlighted the work of the 'We're Breastfeeding Friendly Cavan' initiative which is ran by 'Parenting Cavan' along with the HSE in a bid to get businesses and public spaces to sign up. Speaking to Northern Sound, Lorna says it's important to provide safe and comfortable spaces for mothers to breastfeed in public:
