Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the fatal collision shortly after 3pm yesterday afternoon.

The victim of a fatal road traffic collision in Co Cavan has been named locally. The incident took place on the N55 Cavan to Ballinagh Road yesterday shortly after 3pm. 48-year-old Gary Murphy who was originally from Ballinagh in Co Cavan has been described locally as an "absolute gentleman" who was a "pleasure to know." In a touching tribute posted to social media, one friend wrote; "A true gentleman who would go out of his way to help anybody. The only way I can describe him is that he had a heart bigger than anyone I've ever met. A true friend that I was privileged in life to know."

Gardaí attended the incident which involved a car and a motorcycle on the main Cavan to Ballinagh road at Corlurgan yesterday afternoon. The motorcyclist, known locally as Gary Murphy was pronounced dead at the scene and no other injuries to persons were reported. The N55 road at Corlurgan has since reopened to motorists.

Meanwhile, Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the N55 in the Corlurgan area between 3pm and 3:30pm on Tuesday 2nd January 2024 are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
