An in-depth Prime Time report into farm thefts which airs on RTE One tonight will highlight a theft that occurred at a farmyard in Emyvale.
Vehicles and large pieces of machinery - including quad bikes, jeeps, trailers and skid-steers - are being stolen from farms across the country, often under the cover of darkness, CCTV footage obtained by Prime Time has revealed.
Certain types of equipment, including GPS systems used in tractors that are worth up to €20,000, are also among the items being stolen. Farmers who spoke to the programme which will air tonight say they are increasingly concerned about the scale of theft they are experiencing.
It will feature thefts from farms from across the country including Co Monaghan. In CCTV footage that will be aired tonight from a farm in Emyvale shows thieves who took a mini loader from an Emyvale yard.

The plant machinery was reported stolen to Gardaí at 2:30 on Sunday, 3d November 2024 and Emyvale Gardaí say the Skid Steer loader was taken away on a trailer towed by a Landcruiser.
15 months on from the theft, the vehicle was never located. Farm Theft – Open Season’ on Prime Time will air at 9.35pm tonight on RTÉ One.
Gardai issued Northern Sound with the following statement this afternoon in relation to the local theft. Gardaí investigated a report of a burglary and theft of a skid steer loader from a house at Emyvale, Co Monaghan, at around 2:30am on 3rd November 2024.
In the course of their enquiries, Gardaí have regularly engaged with and updated the victim, including that as no suspect has currently been identified, no further investigation can be progressed.
