Gardaí in Co Monaghan are appealing for information following a spate of burglaries in the Monaghan Town area. Enquires are in relation to a total of five burglaries which were reported to Gardaí on the same date. According to Sergeant Mick Duffy four out of the five break-ins occurred on Friday evening the 22nd of March. The first incident happened between 7.30pm and 8.45pm in the Glenview area. The culprits forced a rear door open and entered the property. It is believed two men dressed in dark clothing were observed in the area and got into a car heading in the direction of Monaghan Town.
On the same evening, a home was forcibly entered in the Ashgrove Lawns area of the town, this was shortly followed by a third incident which occurred in the Glenview area. The window of opportunity on this occasion is believed to be between 6pm and 10pm. According to Sergeant Duffy there is "no doubt" that all three incidents were carried out by the same culprits. Two other burglaries also occurred in the Tully area. One property was vacant for the past two weeks until the homeowner discovered that a break-in had taken place on Easter Sunday. A quantity of jewelry was moved from the property. Elsewhere, the second break-in in the Tully area occurred on Friday evening the 22nd of March and it is likely that both burglaries again occurred on the same evening. In relation to all incidents, Sergeant Mick Duffy is appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
