Birdwatch Ireland says the birds will choose a different place to nest next year.

Concern has been raised after reports of buzzard attacks in a Monaghan village.

In the past two weeks, it's believed at least three people were attacked by the bird while walking in Newbliss.

However, Birdwatch Ireland says it's a rare occurance.

The incidents all took place on a wooded stretch of road in the townland of Drumullan, close to Killeevan Chapel.

Cornelius Thompson was out walking two weeks ago, when he was struck from behind.

Thankfully his wounds have healed, but there is a worry in the locality that if a child or older person was to be attacked, the consequences would be much worse.

Niall Hatch from Birdwatch Ireland says the bird of prey typically avoids human contact, and this behaviour seems to be driven by Covid restrictions.

He is reassuring people that normal nesting should resume next year, and people shouldn't consider harming the birds.
