Concern has been raised about the deterioration of water quality at Lough Sheelin as a result of algae bloom.

The algae bloom, which prevents light from getting to plant-life at the bottom of the lake, has lasted into November this year.

Eamonn Ross is the treasurer of the Lough Sheelin Trout Protection Agency and he says the lake is very important for biodiversity.

He says the current strategies for dealing with the lake aren't working and that a co-ordinated effort is needed between the EPA, the local council, and other national agencies.

Eamonn told Shanonside Northern Sound that Lough Sheelin faces a "vicious cycle" that could kill off trout if something isn't done:
