A Co. Monaghan publican has raised concerns about the impact transport has on rural nightlife.
Brian Renaghan from Renaghan's Pub in Clontibret was speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning.
He said that sometimes staff behind the bar have had to leave customers home if they have no lift.
Mr. Renaghan explained that in rural areas the facilities are not available to bring customers home.
He outlined that people are conscious of drunk driving and that it isn't as big of an issue as it used to be.
However, he noted that speeding and drug driving are also issues.
The publican is concerned, because Christmas is a vital time for publicans.
Mr. Renaghan said: "Pub trade has got difficult. Going off statistics, and what we're hearing off Irish Distillers, it's going to get even more difficult.
"We need Christmas to be good, because in the run up to Christmas it will be quiet, and then after Christmas, it's the 17th March before you get going again.
"So Christmas is a vital time to get you over the line, to keep the lights on, to keep going until the brighter days of spring.
"If you've a bad Christmas, it's very difficult to survive after that," he added.
