Concerns raised over ending of boarding at Cavan's Royal School

Concerns have been raised about the ending of boarding at the Royal School in Cavan.

The school will end the practice as the cost of implementing Covid-19 measures is too great - upwards of €250,000.

Cavan TD Pauline Tully has questioned the claim and has called for staff who are now being made redundant to be treated fairly. Up to seven catering and household staff are believed to be affected.

She says SIPTU plans to bring a case to the Workplace Relations Commission as workers feel they have been treated “shabbily” by management and have only been offered statutory redundancy.

Deputy Tully says the news is disappointing given the Royal School’s 400 year history in Cavan:
