A Monaghan councillor has raised his concerns in relation to extremely long wait times for an ambulance in the county. Cllr Paudge Connolly brought a motion to this month's sitting of Monaghan County Council where he called on the chief ambulance officer to come before elected members over lengthy wait times.
It's the second time that the Monaghan Councillor has made this call with a previous call made six months ago which still has not being accepted by the ambulance service. Last month it took almost three hours for an ambulance to attend an emergency call to a football game between Monaghan Town FC and Blayney Rovers FC where a child was injured.
This meant the injured child had to remain in the same position on the pitch until the arrival of the paramedics. The local councillor highlighted the importance of ambulance services attending emergency calls within the 'golden hour' which can help prevent fatalities and further injury.
While commending the efforts of hard-working healthcare staff, Councillor Connolly said concerns are "no reflection on staff", and more to do with policy. The Monaghan Councillor says the system isn't working and lives are being put at risk.
