Magheracloone forecaster urges 'caution' during hot spell

Met Eireann's Gerry Murphy said the key message around these temperatures is for people to stay hydrated, keep in the shade and be very careful around water.

A status yellow heat warning for the entire country comes into effect from tomorrow and will remain in place until Friday.

Met Eireann is predicting temperatures in the high twenties over the next few days, with highs exceeding 30 degrees on Thursday.

Magheracloone man and Met Eireann forecaster Gerry Murphy said Cavan and Monaghan will be very warm with a mixture of cloud as well as decent spells of sunshine set in store.

Speaking to Northern Sound, the national forecaster has urged people to stay hydrated over the coming days with the energy of the sun at it's highest during this time of year.

He warned that temperatures during the night will be mild at around 14-15 degrees which can be very uncomfortable for those who are young or old:
