Co Cavan Senator Sarah O'Reilly claims there has been an increase in anti-social behaviour across local communities, particularly around her own town of Bailieboro.
Senator O'Reilly says this anti-social behaviour needs to be called out with residents living in constant fear.
According to the Aontú representative there has been repeated incidents at local level which are fuelled from teenagers consuming alcohol around the local lake.
Senator O'Reilly claims the consumption of alcohol then leads to violent disorder spilling out across the local town and onto the main street.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Senator O'Reilly said people have a right to feel secure in their own locality.
She noted bye laws are in place around the town lake in Bailieboro but they are not enforced when it comes to drinking alcohol on a regular basis.
The local senator believes there has to be an element of personal responsibility when it comes to teenagers and also for parents themselves when it comes to knowing where your child is and what they're doing.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Senator O'Reilly said these incidents are causing locals to not visit public amenities, particulary the older generation.
She said must protect people who enjoy going about their daily lives and availing of our public spaces from this type of thuggish behaviour:
