Members of the Ballybay/Clones Municipal District are to write to Bank of Ireland and ask it to review the decision it took to remove the ATM when the bank left Clones.
A meeting of the municipal district heard earlier today that there has been consequences for people in the locality since Bank of Ireland and Ulster Bank left the town taking their ATMs with them.
Cllr Pat Treanor said a private company is now operating the only ATM in Clones and there are ‘serious problems’ with it because it is either out of cash or not working at all.
He told the meeting that the ATM has been out of order for the last two weeks and in response to representations he was getting from members of the community, contacted the company which is based in England, to either have the machine repaired or removed because of the problems it was causing around the diamond.
Cllr Treanor pointed out that he got no response from the company but that it has been brought to his attention that the ATM is now ‘up and running’ again.
He added that the Bank of Ireland ATM is still in town and is just covered up, so therefore it shouldn’t be a big job to get it reactivated again.
