Age Action said a more targeted approach is required.

The cost of gas and electricity is set to fall when cabinet signs off on a number of measures aimed at reducing fuel bills this morning.

The package will see a cut to the VAT charged on electricity and gas down to nine per cent - though not on petrol, diesel and home heating oil.

A triple week payment of the fuel allowance will be paid, and the PSO levy on gas and electricity is expected to be scrapped.

Age Action said a more targeted approach is required to ensure those most at risk of fuel poverty are helped.
