A local councillor has welcomed the news that 16 residential units will be available to rent at 25% off the market value in Monaghan Town.
Cllr Alan Johnson confirmed that Monaghan County Council is launching the scheme from today with an application portal opening on November 17th.
A total of 16 homes will be available, comprising of 8 x 1 Bed Apartments, 7 x 2 Bed Apartments and 1 x 1Bed Town House are being made available for rent by Monaghan County Council under the Cost Rental Scheme under the Affordable Housing Act 2021.
All Cost Rentals are set a minimum level of 25% below the market rent.
The aim of the scheme is to target people and families whose income is too high for social housing supports.
Cllr Johnson also confirmed that locals in the area will be given priority in relation to renting one of these homes.
Speaking to Northern Sound, he said it's very welcome news.
