Cavan County Council is teeing up for a civic reception to honour Ballyconnell’s Leona Maguire following her recent LPGA success

The Cavan-native won her first ever LPGA Tour event just two weeks ago at the Drive On Championship in Florida.

She finished on 18 under par, three shots clear of Lexi Thompson.

Meanwhile, the local sports star will appear on tomorrow night’s Late Late Show where Mullingar native and singing sensation Niall Horan will pay tribute to her.

During Monday’s county council meeting, Cllr John Paul Feeley led the congratulations to the Ballyconnell woman who is now at the top of her game.

It was he who also initiated the civic reception in the first instance.

Cllr Peter McVitty told Northern Sound, the Cavan woman was "a credit to herself and her family".

"She is a marvellous ambassador for the county and is a great credit to herself and her family," he added.

"Nothing ever went to that girl's head; she has her feet firmly on the ground.
